Privacy Notice
Rides.je is in beta. We’re building Jersey’s vehicle marketplace by pulling together listings from local dealers, scraping public dealer websites, and accepting direct private-seller submissions — all in one place. This page explains what we do with personal data along the way. We’ve tried to write it like a human, not a lawyer.
Who we are
Rides.je is operated from Jersey, Channel Islands. If you need to reach us about anything on this page, drop us a line from the contact page and we’ll come back to you.
What we collect
- Account info — if you sign up (as a private seller, dealer, or finance partner), we store your name and email so you can log back in.
- Enquiry messages — if you send a dealer an enquiry via Rides.je, we keep the message, your name, and your contact details so the dealer can reply, and so we can show you your own enquiry history.
- Saved searches and favourites — if you ask us to email you when matching cars appear, we store the filters and your email.
- Anonymous pageviews — we record which pages get visited so we can see what people are looking at. No IP address is stored, no cookie is set for this, and signed-in staff browsing is excluded.
- Country — if our hosting layer tells us the visitor’s country (a two-letter code like “GB” or “FR”), we save that with the pageview. We don’t know who you are or which town you’re in.
Where vehicle data comes from
Vehicle listings on Rides.je are aggregated from three places: dealer-supplied feeds, public information on dealer websites that we scrape and normalise, and private-seller submissions. We do our best to keep prices, photos and specs in sync with the source, but the seller remains the source of truth. Spotted something off? Let us know.
What we do with it
We use your data to operate the marketplace: show you listings, forward your enquiries to dealers, email you about saved searches you’ve opted into, and keep an eye on which features people actually use. We don’t sell your data, and we don’t share it with advertisers.
How long we keep it
Account data sticks around for as long as the account is active. Enquiry history is kept indefinitely so you and the dealer can refer back to it. Anonymous pageviews are retained for trend analysis. If you want us to delete your account or any specific data, just ask — we’ll do it within a reasonable window.
Your rights
You can ask us, at any time, to: show you what we hold about you, correct it, or delete it. Email us via the contact page and we’ll sort it. We won’t make you jump through hoops.
Third parties
A few services sit underneath Rides.je that may incidentally see your data: our hosting provider (Railway), database, image CDN (Cloudflare R2), and email delivery. They process data on our behalf and don’t use it for their own purposes.
